I F*$(@#ING hate bacteria

If anyone has ever wondered why microbiology professors are crazy I think these past few days I've found the reason why.......... ITS BECAUSE THE LAST FORTY F#$^#ING YEARS OF THEIR LIVES HAVE BEEN GOVERNED BY LITTLE F#$%ING BACTERIA LESS THAN 200 MICROMETERS. Seriously, if my life was based around staying up late every night and waking up early to grow some little f(*%^ing cells I think I would either a.) shoot myself in the f(#^*ing nuts or b.) go absolutely crazy (the later being the more preferable outcome).

**warning: this post was made while watching cells divide in a little petri dish (an event even more boring than watching water boil since it only happens every 30 minutes in the case of these cells)**

I'm not sure what happened, but I just want to say for the record that Doty shot me last night (picture pending since he skidded the fucking thing off my face). Last night, I came home ~9:30 only to to walk in the door of my apartment and be ambushed by Doty. Luckily, I was able to duck and find cover under the nearest couch thanks to my lightening quick moves. Nonetheless, under a hail of gunfire I was miraculously able to tackle Doty, wrestle his fire-arm away from him, and shoot him in the ass, thus, forcing him to run back into his room to bust out his glock of a bee-bee gun. For the next few hours hours we traded bullets, mine of course always hitting Doty and Doty's always being wide of the Mark because he sucks at shooting, until I finally decided to be the bigger man by offering a truce and laying my bee-bee gun down. Doty agreed to the truce, however, as I was walking away Doty lurked forward, grabbed his gun, and shot me (an unarmed man might I add) in the face. This means war!!!

(NOTE: claims made in this post are neither gauranteed accurate or truthful, but still Doty did shoot me in the face)

chess, cadavers, Chicago, cameras, and cycling

I haven't posted in my LJ for a while since quite frankly I've been really busy and when I have free time I'm just too lazy to write anything. Either way here goes

First, I have to give some props to Kristin for getting my toilet clean, although I think the banana walnut bread that I made (and also ate half of) was fair compensation for wading through my $*(^. Last Monday sharique moved to Chicago for his next rotation, and not to get manic depressive in my LJ but I definitely miss hanging out with him all the time. Since Sharique is gone I've been filling most f my free time with some of my old hobbies. As a result, I've spent most of my time trying to learn electronics stuff, reading, and restarting my old habit of playing out the weekly NYT sunday chess game. I haven't played chess in so long, so its actually nice to get back to playing out a game every once in a while. Other than that, I've been planning to start volunteering somewhere for rest of the summer. So far it looks like its going to be the hospital, a shelter, or a food bank, but I have a feeling that since I have weird hours that its going to be the hospital since its open 24/7.

On Friday I spent the day in Chicago with my Dad and we went to the "Bodyworld" art exhibit at the Museum of science and industry. If people haven't heard of the show, its a controversial art show in which plasticized cadavers are disected and posed in various positions. Overall, the show was insanely interesting and it totally kicked %$#. Its kind of wierd but lately I've been on a serious art kick. I'm actualy thinking about going out to Kresge next weekend since I heard they busted out the really cool stuff like Mann Ray and Calder for an exhibit this summer.

As usual I worked all day Saturday and will be working most of tonight. Both last night after work and this morning I biked 30+ miles on Gretta(that's what I've decided to name my bike). Road biking is so insanely addictve and I LOVE IT. Last night, I finally ordered my digital camera online and I cant' wait until I get the chance I'm going to take my camera with me and get pictures of all of the awesome scenary that I bike by.

I have been really busy lately so I've been too tired to update my journal (yes it's a lame @$$ excuse). Still, since the 4th is slowly creeping up, I think its worth a mention about the real fireworks show on 4th of July. On the 4th @ 1:52am EDT NASA will perform its own version of destruction derby by crashing Deep Impact into the comet Temple 1. Supposedly, the collision will be visible from earth, making it a once in a lifetime chance to see a comet explode into a million pieces. If anyone is at all interested in the event you can read more at:

http://www.jpl.nasa.gov/news/news.cfm?release=2005-098

Okay this is a shameless hangout post, so bear with me. My roommate and I are going to see the Ravenettes at the Magicstick on Wednesday (yes I know that's tomorrow) and I was just checking to see if anyone else wants to come. The show starts @ 8pm and the tickets cost ~$13. So far we only have one other person in that car so if anyone else needs a ride to the concert from the Flint area just let me know.

ROAD BIKE!!!!!!

Okay so I haven't updated in a while and I don't care to right now so I'll just stick to these past two days. Friday, the potluck was pretty fun and I think we should do it again some other time. Most likely it won't be on a Friday so that people don't have to give up their Friday night plans for a potluck. Unfortunately, Kevin got to the potluck about 2 hours before everyone else. Needless to say after he started telling me about the book he was writing I decided to start drinking because I the one-on-one time with Kevin was interesting to say the least. Luckily though, Kristin and her cousin came over and saved me. The rest of the night was mainly just hanging out, eating, watching movies, and other fun stuff. I kind of felt bad because I fell asleep ~3am during the movie, but I had only gotten something like 13-14 hours of sleep the past three nights, so I just couldn't stay awake.

On Saturday, I woke up at 8am and sped back to Okemos where I made it just in time for work. After work I found out that my Dad picked up my road-bike from the shop, so I decided to get my sea-legs back under me and take my baby for a ride. In all I biked just under 30 miles in just over an hour. It was so relaxing to just go riding on the semi-country roads around and check out the sights. Still, this morning I'm pretty beat up with my legs, ass, and calves hurting like all hell from pedaling. On top of that my hands have sores since I was gripping the handles to tightly the whole time and my taint is killing me because the plush bike seat cover that I got didn't work. I'm not sure what I'll do until I have to work tonight, but I think instead of reading all day I think I might take my bike out and ride out to Webberville or something like that.

pootluck rescheduled

I need to study for my test tomorrow, so I'll keep this short and to the point. I'm rescheduling the potluck for Friday at my house. People can start coming over anytime after 6pm when I get home from work. I know this is kind of last minute so if anyone is interested let me know via my LJ or via my home phone (810.235.3853). Of course, as with before let me know what you are thinking about bringing and tell me any movies that you might want to watch. I'll try to call everyone from honors tonight to see if they are interested, so if you don't get don't this by Thursday hopefully I've called you.

P.S. I think I'm going to the drive in movie theater tomorrow night, so if anyone is interested in that as well, just let me know.

bubble tea recipe

to meet the high demand for cheap and easy bubble tea, I offer this tasty recipe from the new york times

Litchi Cocnut Bubble Tea

-1 cup light brown sugar -1 cup crushed ice
-1 cup white sugar -1 cup canned litchi nuts in syrup
-2 cups tapioca pearls (1/4-inch wide) -3/4 cup cocnut milk
-1-2 teaspoons fresh lime juice

for each bubble tea:
-1/2 cup chilled tapioca pearls

#1. In a saucepan, combine sugars with 2 cups of water. Bring to a boil; then turn off the heat. in a pot,l bring 4 quarts of water to a boil. Add the tapioca and coook until tender, about 8 minutes if parboiled. Drain. Mix the pearls with the sugar mixture and chill.

#2. To make a drink, spoon the pearls into a large glass. In a blender, puree the ice, litchis, coconut milk, milk, and lime juice. When smooth and frothy, pour over the pearls and stick in a straw (Serves 1, adapted from www.bobaind.com, a website dedicated to bubble tea).

This recipe sounds really hard to make and really sophisticated seeing as how it came out of the great grey lady. Still, best of luck to all who try it and I hope it turns out edible.

Bollywood movies kick @$$

Last night, I saw my first Bollywood movie and it was absolutely hilarious. I'm not sure what the title was since it was Sharique's movie, but the best way I can describe it is that it was a just like an old Mariah Carey music video except that it had a plot (when I say this I don't mean the new slutty Mariah Carey years, but rather the wholesome Mariah Carey years). Unfortunately, we watched the movie in Urdu so I didn't really understand everything, but the plot and the acting is so cheesey and stereotypical that its almost in possible to not to get the general gist of it.

As of lately I haven't studied at all because I feel bad not spending time with my roommate since he's here for only 6 six (maybe 12 weeks) and I don't want to be the kind of roommate that never sees any of his other roommates. Because of this I studied until about 3am last might (sorry Maggie) and I think I'm going to be spending most of my free time this weekend studying ahead for my Calc class. Either way, today I'm going to see Episode 3 finally with Sharique and his friend from Chicago even though everyone I've talked to about the movie have already ruined the cool parts for me.

This weekend, I finally get to see my sister on Monday after not having seen her for so long which will be nice. Hopefully my bike will be done this before the weekend starts because I want to try and bike out to Webberville early Monday morning. Other than that I'm studying and reading for the rest of the weekend which will be relief since I haven't had much time for either between research and work.

potluck post: part deux

Alright I totally didn't realize that memorial day weekend started on Friday. As a result, lots of people are out of town and can't make it. Plus, my sister is coming home this Friday and since I haven't seen her in so long I think I'm heading out of town Friday night. Again, sorry about screwing anyone over on this, but I think my sister will probably be moving out of state this fall, so I kind of want to spend as much time with her as I possibly can before she moves. Still, since this weekend isn't going to work, I've decided that instead I'm going to have to the potluck get-together on either Thursday or Friday of next week. Like before, if anyone is interested let me know (810.235.3853 or via LJ) the day of preference, the dish you are bringing, and any other ideas you have for the get-together. Overall, no need to respond anytime soon, and I'll probably end up calling everyone from honors before the end of next week to see who all wants to come.

potlcuk party

Firstly, I have to thank Kristin (I remembered the "i" this time) for the whiskey brownies. When I got home from work I ate 1/2 of the pan of brownies and ran five miles, something which I don't really recommend. Actually, it was a sort of deja vu experience that brought me back to the days when I would drink all night Friday and then wake up at 7am to run the 5 mile track. Sometimes you puke other times you just feel like @#*%, but either way you have to run the whole 5 mile loop since there's no going back once you've already ran ~2 miles.

Still, I digress......

I'm going to have the potluck/movie-night/get-together at my apartment this Friday night. All who read this are invited to come (that includes you Doty since I know there was some controversy), but all that I ask is that you let know via phone (810.235.3853) or my LJ that you are coming. On top of that if you are coming please let me know what you are bringing and what if any movie you want to watch. All in all people can start showing up any time after 6pm so don't worry if you can't make it until late at night.

Ahhh the weekend kicks ass after being busy as hell all week-long. I think its time to recap the lessons learned this weekend.

1. babka is really good, but it takes a long time to make and its really messy

2. you should never pick up a desk from someone with manic depression and a love-less military marriage, because she sucks you and your roommate into an hour long conversation and stalks you via email for almost a week now

3. after watching "De-lovely"... Cole Porter's music kicks ass

4. Okemos Bike Shop sucks #)@# and holds your bike for 3 weeks since they're "backed up" which is bull @)#$ and their #(%&ing cocks about the number system there

5. flouridone is the most boring research topic ever

6. always ask how long the Swiss girlfriend is staying before you agree to work Mert's shifts so that they can go to the East Lansing art festival (something you would have otherwise done instead of working)

7. p-acne (pronounced "packney" as in "hackney"), short for pizza-related acne (from work), is disgusting!!

8. "Modern Sounds in Country and Western Music" by Ray Charles is awesome even though he didn't write any of the songs

9. trying to fight 10 year-olds for tickets to the Friday night showings of "Star Wars: Episode III" with your Dad is futile since there are just too damn many of them

By the way, on a totally random note... after baking with Kristen and Sharique I think that people should have some sort of potluck movie-night/get-together sometime this week or next week. If anyone else reads this and cares to second the motion, just let me know and we should try to set somthing up.

roommate post

Okay other than the usual work, eat, study, do research etc...... a few things worth mentioning have happened.

Sunday my dad totally gave me his old school 1970's bike which is insanely sweet. I took it to the bike shop to get the back-wheel fixed, but other than that I can't wait until Saturday when I plan to ride around the country roads on the finest piece of bicycle technology from 1974. Its going to be so much fun!!!!!

Yesterday, my roommate, Sharique, finally moved in. He seriously the nicest guy in the world and since he's such a neat freak he's been cleaning my apartment little by little over the past two days. While I thought about abusing that privilege for a while I feel like a dick for not helping so I've vacuumed and put lots of stuff away to make him feel more at home. On top of that he tries to make my apartment smell nice by putting air fresheners around the house. At first I wasn't really sure how to take that, but I don't think he means any disrespect. On the other hand some of his air fresheners are from the Family Dollar so I practically want to gag whenever he sprays the mist around the house. Lastly, after having cleaned my house I'm kind of jealous because Sharique's room is bigger and cleaner than my room, but then again I don't have to sleep on the rock hard futon so I guess its a trade-off.

Naturally, since he just moved in, last night was a sort of roommate bonding thing where we went out for pizza, hung-out and talked, fixed my wheelchair (we actually named it "Samurai Lukes"), and talked trash about how we were going to kick eachother's @#$ in the wheelchair time trails that are slated for next week.

Other things on the deck for these next few days are:
-picking up a free desk that I got from GFCN, so that Sharique can study someplace other than my multi-purpose card table/dining-room table/work bench for ripping apart all things electronic
-cooking up a babka for a food swap with Kristen
-unfortunately lots of work, studying, and research
-going to see Star Wars Epidsode 3 even though its probably going to suck

cheese

It's summer and I haven't retired to update post yet so here goes.

Friday, I had to go to Meeting of the Minds and I think the experience just solidified my total hate of having to get up in from of a large group of people and talk. My presentation of my paper was REALLY BAD, and when I say this I don't mean bad, I mean really bad in that I stuttered the whole way through and sweated profusely while I was talking. Again, I HATE GETTING UP IN FRONT OF LARGE GROUPS OF STRANGERS AND TALKING!!!!!!!!!!! Still, its over and done with so there's no point in dwelling upon it.

Saturday, I spent the morning trying to do annotated bibliographies for the 4" stack of journal articles that I have to read for Tischler. So far I've made a dent, but I have something like 20 more articles to read and take notes on by Tuesday, thus, I'm definitely not going to be able to get all of them done in time. After that I worked more or less the whole day. It was insane, last night someone accidentally gave me a hundred dollar bill on accident and I didn't realize it until I was being checked out. I actually felt really bad for whoever made the mistake, since someone probably needed to money and I'd hate to screw them over. Before I left I had narrowed the possible people down to 6 or 7 deliveries, but the only problem is that I couldn't really call up customers be like "Hi, this is the cottage inn driver. Did you by any chance accidentally give me a $100 bill, because I'd like to return it so I don't screw you over". In the end, I ended up making insane amounts of tip money because of the mistake, but I'm not spending the money anytime soon since I think someone might call up today about it.

After work me Chris and Jeff had a wine snob party at their apartment while we watched "Sideways". Naturally, since they bought the wine I was the under-age cheese-bitch. I actually bought a hell of a lot of cheese with the variety spanning cheddar, mozzarella, colby, munster, and because we're such fancy #%)*ers kraft american singles. The whole time I was buying the cheese all of the night employees at Miejers kept on giving me these weird looks like I had some sort of sexual cheese fetish and that I needed arms full of cheese to feed my late night sexual urge. Still, I haven't bought cheese in a while and so all I have to say is holy #$^$ its so expensive. I don't what was up with cheese prices last night but even the faux individually wrapped cheese slices were like $4. Either way, the wine snob party was fun although I don't really think the alkis actually enjoyed the wine that much since by the end of the night Chris was slamming back the glasses of wine every minute or so.

Today, the morning began with the two-tone cheese shits and I have a feeling that for how much cheese we ate its going to be it going to be like that for a while. Other than that I'm mainly doing annotated bibliographies and working for the rest of the day, so nothing too exciting.

P.S. Pinot noir kicks ass and merlot sucks!!

money for nothin and who knows maybe some chicks for free

Well let's see you're relatively poor with little to no money. On top of that you live in an apartment that is way to big and way to expensive for you. Obviously, you are in dire need of money. Furthermore, this impoverished condition is magnified in that next semester you will be taking 19 credits of bitch-ass classes so you won't be able to work as much and instead you will have to make some extra cash over summer to make up for lost cash next semester. Now there are two ways to go about this. First, the obvious solution is to work your tail off and kill yourself with a 9-5 job on top of your standard research, classes, tutoring, and volunteering load, however, there is one more option, THE BRENDAN SOLUTION. In the Brendan solution you get randomly contacted by a med student doing his residency at Hurley in pediatric medicine and work out a deal such that he is willing to live more or less as a squatter in your living-room and pay ~$200 a month over summer to basically sleep and study in your living-room!!! Of course, the deal hasn't been sealed yet but tomorrow the dude is coming over to check out the place so I'm naturally doing the little sparkle and shine on my apartment to make it look nice. In addition, I'm also packing tons of random *(@# in my bedroom closet to make it look like the living-room is a lot more spacious than it really is. Sweet!!! It looks like I might actually have money at the end of summer!!! Then again along with the Brendan solution for making money there is the Brendan solution for spending money in which I end up spending the money that I should otherwise be saving on this sweet little honey of a digital camera that I've been eyeballing for past 3 months.

the non-bitchy post

Alright, I've decided to stop leaving bitchy posts about my summer being really busy when I was hoping it would be more relaxed.

Overall, Montreal was an awesome trip minus the long and not to mention cramped car ride up and back. The people who didn't go should have gone since in general everything was pretty cool. I hope I can go on the trip next year, but I'm thinking maybe we shouldn't go someplace that takes 1/2 a day just to drive there.

Monday I had my first day at Delphi. Everyone there is really nice and a lot of the people there are insanely nerdy, so I think even though the work is boring its going to kick ass. Apparently, for some random reason I get my own desk even though I'm in the lab most of the time. Still, I don't want to have an empty desk (because that would just be kind of boring) so I've been walking around my apartment trying to find stuff to put at my desk. So far the only thing that I've found so far is my Beavis and Butthead coffee-cup so I think I might just start stockpiling candy in my desk to fill space.

Yesterday, I finally got my FREE Wheelchair from GCFN. The thing is pretty old school and the only problem is that the foot-holders don't properly attach to the chair part. To remedy the problem I'm going to have to either use my crappy soldering skills or else use the standard application of insane amounts of duct-tape. I probably should be doing homework or reading some research chem articles right now, but instead I think I'm going to play with my wheel-chair outside. So far I haven't really devised anything to do with my wheelchair other trying to learn how to do wheelies, although next Halloween I think I might have to bust out the wheelchair and make a guest appearance as Stephen Hawking.

SUMMER SUCKFEST

Well instead of doing everything that I wanted to this summer it looks like I'm going to have almost no free time during the week. First off, I met with Dr. Tischler and Dr. Sanders today and doing research with them is going to suck. It looks like for the next week or so I will be reading and trying to understand this 3" stack of journal articles since apparently I have to develop my own experimental procedure and write a paper at the end of the summer. Secondly, I'm meeting with the GM guy tomorrow to figure out my work schedule in which I'll probably be working every week day for the rest of the summer. Thirdly, I have to tutor this woman for CHM 140 since I've already committed to tutor her. I feel like a total @#*$ since I'm not sure how much free time I will have to tutor her. As if that wasn't bad enough for the next few weeks it looks like I'll be working the weekdays at GM and weekends at Cottage Inn since I haven't told them that I'm quitting yet. Even though I am taking Calc II, if the rest of the semester is anything like today, the class is going to be a total joke. Today the professor was saying that he wouldn't teach us certain formulas involving things like cscx and cotx since "no ever really uses them in real life". At first I thought he was joking and started to nerdily laugh, but it turns out that he's seriously not teaching us things because he doesn't think we will ever need them. While I think that's cool of him to be conscious of how busy people are, I was like "Dude that's seriously the stupidest thing I've ever heard" since you can't just not learn things like cscx and cotx based equations.

Tonight I'm going to pick up an old school 70s TV that I got from someone off of GCFN. At last, I can finally use my Heathkit TV building manual since its virtually useless with modern TVs whose circuits are miniaturized. Additionally, I was thinking about driving out to see Melt-Banana at the Magic Stick to night, but I promised that I'd vote for Ruddock's Dad for school-board president so instead I'll be driving back home tonight so that I can vote early in the morning and still make it back in time for my Calc class. Along the same lines of music I finally heard the new NIN Cd on myspace.com and it totally kicked @#$. I recommend that everyone should go to myspace.com and listen to it for free!!!!!

tour de force

I'm not really sure how to sum up the past days so I've decided to be lazy and just make the cliche top #10 list of things that have been going on lately.

#10: I just bought an ice cream maker since I was sick and tired of waiting for someone on GCFN to offer one up. Today I made ice cream with Maggie and it totally kicks ass, but the only problem is that the smallest quantity of ice cream it makes is 4 quarts. As a result, I decided to make real ice cream before I try making my own savory flavor.... beer ice cream.

#9: I got offered a job at the GM analytical chemistry division testing O2 sensors and doing some other lab stuff. While the job sounds really cool I feel bad because Tischler hosed Anna on the Delphi job.

#8: I'm supposed to be doing research with Dr. Tischler and Dr. Sanders for investigating hydrilla resistance to pesticide. I think it sounds really cool, but I think that it might kind of suck as far as work goes seeing as how this weekend Tischler gave me 45+ pgs of reading to do this weekend.

#7: I've decided that instead of inadvertently killing myself while doing electrical work that I'm going to actually start reading some electronics textbooks so I know that I have some idea of what I'm doing.

#6: Currently, I'm trying to find some place to volunteer this summer. As of now the leaders of the pack are the Big Brother and Big Sisters Club of Flint since it is just down the street from my house (I'm lazy), the food bank that is down the street from my house (again I reiterate I'm lazy), or the hospital, but I haven't really decided yet. In the end I think I might try to find other people to volunteer with so if anyone reads this and is interested in any of those things let me know.

#5: Yesterday, I spent the bulk of my day watching these crappy futuristic 1960s sci-fi flicks. It was totally kick as since most of them were old Russian space movies that had been dubbed over in English. Personally, my favorites part was the "cosmic love" machine in "War of the Planets".

#4: Today my neighbor Terra finally moved out. Overall I feel bad since I never really hung out with her, but I still have a few fond memories like: 1.)the way too personal sexual phone calls that she made and which I could hear through the wall 2.) her trying to get me to drink with her during the school week when I had huge projects/papers to work on 3.) dealing "Scientific American" mags to her whenever she had to write random papers for school.

#3: This month I've decided that my main goal is the finally get through reading all of my old NYT "science times" sections, my old NYT Sunday magazines, and finally get around to reading the collected works of Ernest Hemingway.

#2: I totally forgot to get Billy's physics and multivariate textbooks before she left for DC so I think some time next week I'm going to find out which textbooks UM-Flint uses and just buy them online so that I can study those over summer.

#1: Yesterday, I went to Churchhill's with Maggie. Overall, good times for all especially seeing as how these two people at the bar kept on buying me drinks and shoving them in my face so that I got cozily drunk for free.

BLAH.....BLAH.... BLAH

Well, I think that after having lived with the old man these past few days that I'm starting to turn into an old man myself. As of lately, I've been starting to sync up my sleep patterns with my 66 yr old father since half of the time when he wakes up he inadvertently wakes me up. Right now, its pretty sad seeing as how on the nights I don't go out I wake up @ 6 am and go to sleep @ 11:30. Still, the past few days with my Dad have been pretty cool, sans a few days ago when he God knows what crawled up his catheter and he was being a total ass for a while.

Yesterday, my dad and I went to my sister's graduation. I got some decent pictures of the graduation, but I'm guessing that the newly minted photography graduate will still give me the standard pain-filled "Oh God these pictures suck" smile when we finally get them developed. Nonetheless, unlike my graduation I know that I took pictures of the right person, thus, we won't have to go through another moment like the one two years ago when we opened the packet of graduation pictures only to find that someone in my family had accidentally taken 16 pictures of Elliot Radcliff getting his diploma instead of me. Strangely to this day there is a total wall on silence on the topic in which no one has ever fessed up to being the photographer that day. After graduation everyone went over to Brent's house to have a BBQ. Overall, the BBQ was really cool and I think after having hung out with Brent's family the whole day it just reaffirms my belief that his parents are some of the nicest people I have ever meet.

Up an coming events are as usual study, final exams, the Honors party, and more drinking interspersed with work next weekend. I think I'm supposed to go golfing with Jeff and the new girl at work sometime but I don't think they realize how badly I suck. In reality, the only reason I have golf clubs in that the one of the MSU basketball team physicians sold them to me at his garage sale a few years ago. Furthermore, I think I left my driver at Chapman's house two years ago and in total I only have 5 golf balls. So far I haven't decided whether or not I'm going to try and steal some shit balls from the driving range or else go on a covert mission to Indian Hills to find lost golf balls. Right now, it looks like we're not going to be golfing any time soon and I think that trying to find gold balls against a white back-drop is way too much of a pain in the @#*$ so I guess it will all have to wait until some other day.

quick post

WTF, my dad is crazy. I was talking to him tonight after getting home from my sister's graduation, and he totally pulled a "Tommy Boy" speech that took a wrong turn in that it was a "the next thing you know there's change missing from your dresser and your daughters knocked up, I've seen it a million times" sort of digression. Seriously, about five second ago I was talking about maybe getting a kitten as a pet when my dad somehow turned it into a speech about how he did think it was right for me to have a "live-in mistress" (?). I'm not sure where the #$)*# that came from, but I think there's obviously something that he wants to get off his chest but he doesn't care to breach the topic with me. Overall, I think this whole thing about me getting a roommate is freaking him out after all of the problems that my sister had with her past roommates. I would write more, but I got things to do so...... until tomorrow.

Thank God classes are done

Well, classes are finally over and I'd have to say that the last few days were mind numbingly boring. Luckily, I'm starting to burnout on school just as this semester is ending. Its gotten so bad that for the past few weeks I only studied for the one of my last three tests. Overall, I got pretty lucky in that I did good on all on my tests including my Calc exam which I did half decent on even though I didn't read the chapter or do any of the homework. Right now, all I can think about is my old summer ritual of sitting around my apartment in my underwear all summer long and reading during my free time (something which I seem to have very little of during the school year).

HOLY )@*%#!!!! I was talking to my dad last night and it turns out that he was going to become a rabbi a few years ago but decided not to. That's so weird I could have been "the rabbi's son" and had the burden of living up to insanely high expectations. What's even stranger is that when my dad was young he was apparently being groomed to enter the priesthood by his parents. Surprisingly, this really seems to explain a lot about my dad in that he is one of the most therapeutic people in the world to talk to and he always has these very positive self-reassuring things to say whenever you're stressed out. Either way, the word "father" has gained a sort of double-entendre status at my house, so instead I think I'll be exclusively using "Dad" from now on.

Tonight I was going to go see that Black Keys play at St. Andrew's with Kevin but since we're both kind of busy we're going to see the musical version of "Schoolhouse Rock" that Debbie is stage managing at MSU. Still, right now I've got a few extra bucks so I'm going to go out and by their CD "Rubber Factory" at Best Buy today.

As of yesterday I've decided that I'm going to get a roommate for next year since my apartment is slowly bankrupting me. Sure I might not be able to sit around my apartment in the buff anymore just for the hell of it, but then again I think the trade-off of having an extra $75-100 every month is more than worth it. So far I responded to one dude on the UM-Flint housing site and he totally gave me this jerky response email about how he had all of these people who wanted to be his roommate, so "don't hold your breath on being my roommate". As such, I've decided to post my own roommate post on the UM-Flint website, thus, if anyone reads this and is interested on rooming next year just respond to my post.

So far today is going to be boring since I have to read immunology and maybe do a little math, but you gotta do what ya gotta do.

P.S. Just for the record I want to state that contrary to my annoying aunt you can refreeze meat so long as you let it thaw in its original packaging to minimize bacterial growth.

P.P.S. The Detroit Lions are playing basketball against the Flint police force May 14 at my surrogate high school, Flint Central, so if anyone is interested in going let me know.

First off, I want to set the record straight and just say I'm sorry for getting everyone sick. So far in the past few days I've gotten my Dad, my sister, about half of my Calc class, and probably a few people in honors sick, so I just want to say I'm sorry.

Last week I was a bum and still sick, so I decided not to go to school on Friday since I didn't have to take two different tests and the only class I had was Calc on Friday. Being such, these past few days have been a sort of five day weekend since I headed home on Wednesday to go to the doctor on thursday and I've spent the rest of my time recovering from my cold. Overall, not to much has happened this weekend since I was sick. Yesterday, I finally got over my cold, so I went outside to enjoy the weather. In between studying for Immunology ad Calc I helped my Dad chop down a few trees in our backyard. Of course, since I'm the stereotypical suburban woodsman, when I was chopping down trees I was wearing flop-flips and my PJs. In the end, the extreme laziness that prevented me from putting on real clothes that morning kind of backfired because I think I might have gotten some poison ivy on my feet while walking around the wooded area of our backyard. Still, I think after doing some yard work yesterday I've decided that for my Dad's father's day/ birthday present I will plant a garden in our backyard. Overall, I'm not really sure how well the garden is going to work since my dad tends to have this General Sherman scorched earth mentality with the riding mower (i.e. anything over three inches tall gets leveled). In the past my dad has mowed over mulberry bushes, blueberry bushes, strawberry patches, grapevines, countless flower beds, and even a few saplings in our backyard, which he has said were all on accident, but I think he does it on purpose most of the time. Ultimately, I think I'll have to create some type of brick border or fencing to keep him from using the whole accident excuse BS. Today, not much else happening other than studying for some upcoming tests, finishing my lab notebook, and doing honors binders, so naturally today is going to suck.
